Re: Gas Checks
Although I reload I don't use checks, likely because I don't cast. Not sure why that is yet. I follow RDs pattern. Sometimes I shed a box of this or that (like .22LR) when I need a boost of cash but rarely lose. That and people helping out is why I have stuff to play with.

Re: Gas Checks
I just bought some Gator checks to try. They look a heck of a lot like the old stock Lyman checks I was given a few years ago. They are slip fit still unlike the Hornady checks that crimp closed to fit. But the Gator checks seem a little shorter.

Re: Gas Checks
I'm leaning toward the Gator checks, probably aluminum. Locally if they can be found hornady 45 checks are going for $45 a thousand if you can find them. I think even with shipping on line will be the answer in this case.

Re: Gas Checks
Don't know, I checked the Sage web site and they have both aluminum and copper and the aluminum plain base in 45 and prices aren't too bad even with shipping so unless i find something I can walk into and buy that's probably what I'll do.Maximumbob54 wrote:Blammer is also out but is another good source:

I broke the new 452-300RF in but good today. After culling I have a big pile that I haven't counted yet. Got lube and a sizer just need to get some checks and testing can start.
Anybody done business with Sage?

Re: Gas Checks
I bought a small collection of Sage's checks. I use either soft lead or Lyman #2 and find Sage's checks are always a tight fit. This is with either the regular or plain base. And all I ever tried was aluminum.
This tight fit is why I kept trying to press fit the checks since they won't slip over the bases. But they do work.

Re: Gas Checks
Just a quick update. On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving about mid-morning I ordered some *mm and some 45 copper gas checks from Sage's had them in my mailbox Monday - great service.
The 8m,m Lee bullet cast a little large and the checks are a tight fit on the shank. The 300 grain Lee 45 came out at about 453 and the checks fit fine and seem to crimp on with a pass through the 454 Lee sizer. They've been pan lubed and either tonight or tomorrow I'll put together a test series with H110 from about 22.2 to about 22.8 to see where this combination suit the 92. A bit below and up above the best load from last week's testing.
