454 Casull feeding ISSUES.. NOT!

Post by Arktikos »

I haven't got my 454 Casull brass yet but have been curious as heck about if my 92 will feed the longer cartridges or if I would need to do what Ranch Dog did. . Already knew that it feeds the short (1.640) 45 colt rounds well. So tonight I made a dummy round using a 300gr cast bullet seated into 45 colt brass just far enough to make the COAL 1.803. Well good news, it feeds the longer ones fine! Actually even better than the shorter 45 Colts as with those I had to remember not to work the action too slowly whereas with this long snap cap I can work the action very slow, any speed really and it feeds smooth as silk!
Man I like this gun! It's now beat out my 1894 Marlin as my favorite :-D

They have a habit of doing that. My 1892 is my go to gun these days.

Very good!

Shouldn't the title of this topic be a bit more positive, it reads like things were not working out.

You're right, it did sound like a tale of woe.. Anyway this little gun feeds the longer round fantastic! One thing I noticed was the lever wouldn't quite lock, probably a half inch more lever travel to go. The first long dummy round I made ended up being 1.78 I think and it locked upon easy. So will need to play with that with different shape bullets before loading a bunch. May need to trim brass.
