Is it possible to remove the loading gate to work on it without disassembling the whole gun?

Wow...polishing compound. You must remember, they are used last to get that mirror shine on the metal surface. Wet/Dry paper abrasives are what gets the surface smooth. Especially when you've worked up into the finer grits.

Finally found the photos. Hope this gives you some idea of what I did to ease loading into the mag tube.
