The height of that lever "horn" determines when the carrier begins to lift (pic 1). The taller that ear is, the sooner it lifts the carrier in the extraction cycle. The carrier was lifting the cartridge too soon causing the back of the cartridge to "wedge" itself between the carrier and the bottom of the bolt/ejector area (pic 2). The bolt would not come all the way back/lever all the way forward. This was causing small nicks at the cartridge rim area. You could visually see that the bolt needed to come back about 1/16th inch more but would not. I had to push the cartridge back down to reset the carrier and release the bolt. Removing about 1/16th inch material from the face of the horn changed the geometry enough to slightly delay contact with the carrier, thereby preventing the jam. I have attached some illustrations. I hope they help.

A very astute and knowledgeable fix. Your diagrams are impressive. How'd you make 'em?

Well I learned something new here... I thought the 454s all came with the squared butt and recoil pad.

I ordered mine with the thinner stock without the pad for a more traditional look. All the Rossi 92 stocks are interchangeable.

I took screenshots from a Winchester 1892 animation I found awhile ago on the web.

Yes from BM. Great company.

The only other thing I did after those pics is add the sling rear eyelet to the buttstock. I have been very happy with this Rossi rifle. I hope they come out with an octagon barrel version soon.

I have bought several from BM, they work really well. In fact I purchased two in the last 2 weeks. One for my new 24" SS 38/357 Rossi and another one for my 454 Casull.

That's interesting. Is it the staple attached type?
