Great info, thanks! I've been eye the latest Rossi with the beautiful and well-fit stocks. My 2015 R92s work very well and the metal work is excellent. But the Brazilian mystery wood stocks are lacking.

Anyone try the octagonal stocks?

I received my XX walnut stock back in August shortly after my last post. Immediately after that, I got word from my cardiologist and surgeon that it was time to have my leaking heart valve repaired.

I shelved the restocking project for later. It will be something to occupy me now during recovery.

Their xx grade is not remotely fancy in my way of thinking. I'm spoiled by the colors of old American walnut like we see on shotguns from 100 years ago. The color is a dull grey brown; there's only a little bit of figure. I really debated sending it back, but it's certainly an improvement over the Rossi's original rubber tree wood.

I'm certain the final inletting will be easy and straight forward.

Hmmm, another Boyds disappointment. Is it already finished? Maybe a hand rubbed oil finish will reveal a bit more character.

Best of luck on a speedy recovery! No recoil, no problem! Break out the 22lr!

It is finished; their "standard finish". To my eyes, it appears to have sort of a muddy stain applied. That may just be the lackluster color of the specific piece of wood. I plan to try stripping a very discrete spot of the wood to determine that.

And, yes, .22lrs are uncased and waiting for loading. Ithaca (Henry) levergun and Ruger Single Six to start. Probably also try Ruger SP 101 in .32 long.

Mine Looks fine. It's the plane walnut version.
Fit was about as usual, meaning I had to do a little trimming hear and there. And then I bedded it using JB Quick

I would post a picture but as usual my KiB size is to big and I don't know how to reduce it. I use to not have this problem.

Here's what they look like.

If the butt stock on the walnut one had the couple of wavy spots in it like the forearm does. I would call that a little bit fancy. But I ordered the plain one before spending the extra money for fancy... and then not getting "fancy". Maybe next time I'll upgrade a little

Well I'll be danged. The pictures worked!!!

I got to thinking after saying in yesterdays post, that I didn't use to have posting problems. I've been using a newer Nikon D3200 and having problems. So I got out the old Nikon D50 and wa-la, it works.

I guess the new model has a lot more pixles than the old one did.

I just ordered a XX walnut stock from Boyds.
I'll let you know what I think of it when it gets to me.
Hopefully it will have more figure than my plain walnut one.
