The shooter is in the least favorable position to judge the supersonic crack of their own bullet. The shooter is in the tail of the Mach cone, and can only hear reflections of the pressure wave. If you want to accurately judge the supersonic crack of your load, you need to be down range. In my case, I would need to find a volunteer with better hearing.

The rifle (to my ear) with a fixed breach and subsonic .38 Spl load sounds about as loud as a .22 rim fire. I've listened to it while someone else has shot it, off to the side (not in front of :shock: ) and again it sounds about like a .22. My light load out of the rifle, has similar velocity as a factory load would have out of a revolver, but it's much quieter out of the 16 inch barrel...... Man these things are just fun to shoot!
