Feeding Heavy 44 Bullets in M92

Post by Maj Dad »

Is there any issue with heavy bullets feeding in the M92 (or any particular shape)? I know bullet shape (SWC/RN etc) plays a big part, along with OAL, but I don't know what works and what doesn't for the M92 & I sure don't want to cough up $100 on a mould or a bunch of FMJs only to have the bullet not feed. The 200s & 240s I've tried feed o.k. (now that I cleaned & lubed the action!) but I'd like to use a little heavier bullet in the rifle. If anyone has tips or suggestions I'd appreciate them - I'd like to avoid learning to walk all over again... ;)
Thanks,
George J.

I'm shooting my TLC432-300-RF sized at .430" at an overall length of 1.61" and my R92 loves it but the hogs hate it! Carolina Cast sells this bullet.

Fueling Heavy 44 Bullets in M92

Post by Maj Dad »

What do you fuel that with, RD? I shoot 300s in my Ruger SBH with WC820 (GI sub H110/296 for M1 carbine) and have tried 2400, but use Sierras with greater OAL (the single cannelure is lower). Not sure how it would feed - not an issue to use another bullet but still leaves the question of powder space & best powder(s). Wonder how that Hornady Leverevolution 265 gr would do? It's listed for the 444, but it's .430" & looks like it would seat plenty low enough for the M92... 8-) Always looking for a good excuse to acquire another powder... ;)

I used to be a H110 shooter but have switched to Lil'Gun. Higher velocity (+25 FPS) at same pressure, case density, and a bit better accuracy. With my TLC432-300-RF @ 1.61", I use 20-grains of Lil' Gun for 1625 FPS. The H110 load was 21 grains at 1600 FPS.

I think I'll try to find Lil Gun after reading a lot of good reviews, but it won't be easy nowadays. I did try some the loaded SIerra 300s I have & it's too long to feed (after I'd fed 2 of them into the tube  ). Hornady has a 265 SP with a deeper cannelure I think I'll try providing I can find any...
