I've been loading 200 gr PC cast bullet over 8 gr of Unique for a mild load. Should I be concerned about a 10 gr load in an R92 rifle?

Looking at the 4th edition of the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook you should be okay. The don't show a 200 grain in the rifle data but do show a 225 grain with a starting load of 11 grain of Unique. In the pistol section they show a 200 grain with a start of 11.8 grains Unique. Both of those are for conventional lubed cast and the usual caveats apply.

8 grains of Unique in a cavernous case like a .429 mag won't blow up anything if all else is well. Unique isn't the best choice for hardly anything though, especially something with "magnum" in the name.

A good friend of mine typically uses about 8.5 grains of Unique for a target/practice load with a 240 grain LSWC bullet and a Large Pistol primer.

He mentioned several years ago that he was developing some SHTF .44 mag loads using Unique and a 180 grain cast bullet upping the charge to 13 grains he got a cleaner burn and better accuracy.

Lyman shows 10 grains of Unique as a starting load for a 210 grain LSWC.

yep,,, 8.5 is one of my standard unique loads.
I leave one of my powder dumps permanently set for it.
I also have one for 9.3grs. of unique and another pair set for 18.0 and 19.3grs. of 2400.

I fired all six of my new loads of 12 grains of Unique under a PC ,44 200 gr cast bullet Saturday with only one bullet on the paper at 50 yds. R92 was zeroed for 20 gr of 2400 and a 240 gr JHP at 100 yds. Would you think the other 5 shots went high or low?

low would be my guess as you aren't going to have as much recoil making the gun rise but it IS a guess.

depending on how big your paper was I'd have thought you'd have been close enough for 50 yards.

Shouldn't be that much difference in point of impact for the two loads you're talking about at 50 yards (200 gr bullet, 12 gr Unique vs. 20 gr 2400). I would think maybe an inch difference at most.

That said, bring it up to 25 yards and repeat to see what's going on there.

Yep on the 25 yard test target. I've learned to figure those those "where did it go" things out by using the 11"X17" paper (instead of the normal (8-1/2x11) on the 25 yard board. Out of at least 5 rounds, if at least one of them hasn't cut paper then there's something else wrong. Normally though, if I'm confident that my windage is in the ball park, I'll pin an extra target above and below the paper I'm actually shooting at, especially out at 100 yds.

Still, the "where did it go" issue really bites sometimes.
