I don't think this thread qualifies as completely zombied or abandoned.

And this forum has a tendency to auto lock old threads so posting updates to threads from a year or two ago doesn't happen.

I can see how that can be a problem on some forums.
On the other hand on some forums or threads it remains relevant but rare.

Good point Archer.

I was very impressed with that brand when I got some for the Mossberg 510E .410 I bought to refinish but I realized a few things mentioned. It penetrates well, it's darker than you expect, and it cleans up with alcohol.

I misspoke when I said beech. It’s birch - A late model Savage 99 forend that I’m trying to match to a laminated buttstock. The BLO is going to darken it, so time will tell how close I came.

The Scottish guy on YouTube says that Fiebings reducer is 15% isopropyl & 85% ethanol. He says that either one works fine, as well as rubbing alcohols with added water.

The only reason to make denatured alcohol is to avoid the liquor taxes.
BUT for some idiotic regulatory reasons it's been getting harder to get, especially here in Kalifornia. (I'm not certain of the real reasons behind the regs but rumors have included idiots trying to drink the denatured product.)

The guys who were using alcohol stoves have been the first to notice they were getting screwed. Apparently the ethanol fuel burned pretty clean. Isopropyl on the other hand is major soot.

People are making their own hand sanitizer. That's why it's hard to get. Many of the Texas liquor distilleries are making sanitizer instead of booze.

Hand sanitizer isn't the reason it's hard to get in CA CARB has been insane for several decades:

I want to put a protective coat on my Rossi's wood, but I don't want to make it into a huge project. And I wouldn't mind the wood a little bit darker.
No prep at all. I put disposable rubber gloves on and rubbed it in with my fingers. I would let it dry for an hour or so and put on another coat. That may not be the "official" way to do it, but it turned out nice.
