Happy to report the Marlin 336 is finally on its way to JES for re-boring and chambering to 38-55. I'll be like a kid waiting for Christmas until it gets back.

On my bucket list! Just need a beater rifle to convert. Don't want to sacrifice my only .30-30.

I got lucky with mine. It's a JM Marlin from the first year of the safety that was evidently someones safe queen. There was no brassing on the loading gate and if it was shot it wasn't much and it had a really good cleaning. I ran a box of 30/30 through it to check function, then put it up to await funds for the conversion.

Be sure to keep the original barrel and any other parts!

Hey Ohio-

Thanks for taking my mind off my slow shoulder recovery issues with another excellent gun-related distraction!! +1

Really, though - this 38-55 conversion idea has got my 2 or 3 marbles rolling around in the noggin at high speed. I even took a look at Jesse O's website - does it still run about $250 (pre-S&H etc) for this rebore job?

The various threads here on Rossi Rifleman about 38-55's and 375's got me hooked.... +guns

Wishing you well on your project, man. Keep us posted and thanks for your time!
