Rossi Rifleman

The Rossi model that brought me to this website, like the Rio Grande itself, has gone down river, to someone who buys lfactory ammo.

It has been replaced with model with extremely better fit and finish, and one that definitely inspires greater confidence. Additionally, being it is a take-down model in .450 Marlin it will desirably fit in dual sport motorcycle luggage for moto-camping in parts north, yet remain useful for looking for elk in north side timber during blowing snow.

~ No bloodied fingers from side loading gate or sharp edged gate window.
~ Not finicky about cast boolit selection within range of boolitz suitable for levers.
~ Comfortable to hold and shoot off hand
~ Action runs smoothly, no CD or after work required.
~ Endearing lines to one already in the Winchester camp.
~ Excellent 100 yd. accuracy with right loads
~ Not a Remlin, but not one COSteve would embrace either - LOL

I bet that be a fine 450 marlin.
That take down be the deal for sure, you could roll it up in a bedroll, throw a few boxes of ammo in the saddlebags, jerky,fire kit, etc.
Are you set up for 450 reloading?
wouldnt take much, good quality brass, and set of dies, couple good molds,etc

Win Short Rifle?

The rifle is a Win. 94 Trails End .450 Marlin. If you look closely you can see the take down lever on mag. tube near muzzle. It is a solid smooth working piece of business. The receiver is side eject, but is tapped for scope mounts or peep sight. The tang comes drilled for a Marbles sight. It also has the tang safety button Lever traditionalists hold in contempt, but it is miles ahead of the asinine interference cross-bolt safeties.

Have brass and reloading dies. I already have ample stock of boolitz that wouldn't work in Rossi but that work fine with the .450, without any trimming of cases or boolit resizing gymnastics. Hornady is only manufacturer of brass and it is not a bargain. It is full length brass.

The .450 Marlin case is much like a belted, rimless .45-70. Powders that work well in lever .45-70's work well in the .450. I am playing around with it at moment with 300 gr, and 405 gr, cast projos, using some powders I have on hand - Blue Dot, 2400, 4198, 5744, RL7. The .450 brass seems stout and I've read that case capacity may be about 7 gr. less than a .45-70. One of my 405 gr. rounds chronos at 1,462 fps,which seems fine for plain base booitz.

Have enjoyed smacking the gongs with the Win. at 50, 100 and 200 yds just getting used to the gun. Limited sight adjustment currently hampers longer range. Over next few months will develop more load data and settle on what I like.

couple winters back, i found a 94AE at a lgs, new, unfired, 2003 model, first year of tang safety.
It is in 30-30, but not a takedown.
I had it cut and crowned to 16 1/4", and installed a rear folding leaf sight.

The tang safety does not bother me in the least.
got to love the 94 action.
I think the 94 is one of my top favorite designs.

Am attracted to the barrel mounted ladder sight. A shooting buddy has a Browning 1886 and that is the sight type that came OEM. Thanks for the link.

This set up might be muy bueno, especially if paired with a fiber optic front sight. Love the model 94 myself, but on this one I am not a traditionalist.
