where to buy 30-30 cast boolits?

Post by Quinc »

I am having a heck of a time finding jacketed bullets so thought I would see what you all recommend for cast and where you buy them?

If you want jacketed bullets in 3030 most walmarts have winchester at least around the ohio area. As for buying lead loaded 3030 rounds someone else will have to chime in. Had to add I am sorry I posted this incorrectly. My badd

For hunting, Carolina Cast. For plinking, MBC 120 grain made for 32-20. Great plinker for small game, tin cans and crows. Use Trail Boss when loading for kids.

Carolina bullets looks good, but to much $$ for just plinking. I will probably pick up some from Mo bullet co.

I use anywhere from 8 - 13 grains of Herc Red Dot pistol powder for reduced loads depending on the cartridge.
I use them to bag the odd grouse or rabbit for the deer camp stew pot when I'm carrying a rifle.
Red Dot is fairly bulky flake powder & small charges (in relation to case capacity) of it won't detonate & blow the gun apart like very reduced charges of some powders will.

finding cast for the 30-30 should be easy nuff even lazer cast has a 3030 mold.
it will be a low and slow affair.
the ones jerry has at carolina cast can be used as a direct replacement for jaxketed in the 30-30.
little different price, big difference in performance.

I have 170 out of a box of 250 Hunter's Supply that I would like to sell. They are 165 grain flat point sized at .311. I could not get them to shoot well out of my .30-40 Krag. I learned that they were not designed for the gun. They should do fine in your .30-30. Let me know if you would be interested.

0.311 .......sounds more like bullets for 303BR or 7.62 x 54R.
The nominal diameter for 30-30 bullets is 0.308 "
Running over diameter lead bullets could lead a barrel real quick.
I'm guessing with lead bullets they'd need to be a little over nominal diameter to give the rifling a good uniform "bite" on the bullet in order to impart the very fast rotation which is necessary for flight stability .......especially the heavier bullets.
And lead has a lower coefficient of friction against barrel steel than the copper or gilding metal of the jacketed or new mono-metal bullets.
