RD's first kill with 480 Ruger!

Post by Ranch Dog »

Took the Puma out to try to find a hog for my new bullet, the TLC478-375-RF. Was gone from the house about 15 minutes and this boar came angling across a sendero at about 60 yards. Boom, knocked it completely off its feet!

Here is is laid out on my cutting trough that I made. Cleaning this one up for family that is visiting, they are going to give it a new home!

I'll take a wild guess from between 1500 - 1800 ft-lbs of muzzle energy.

Oh, you ought to know me by know.

TLC478-375-RF @ 60 Yards
FPS - 1405
FPE - 1639
Bullet Momentum - 75.1 Ft Lbs/Sec
Taylor Knock Out - 36
Thornily Relative Stopping Powder - 149
Veral Smith Penetration Index - 44.55"
Permanent Wound Channel - 1.204"

There was a fellow hunting further down the sendero, almost a mile, and he said the sound of that .337" meplat striking the animal was louder than the report of the rifle and reached him first.

My guess was pretty close at 1500 - 1800 ft-lbs ME. :ugeek:
That's a lotta thump for a stubby little revolver cartridge.
