I just went out and checked mine. .4535"

That's big I know since the rossi has a .451 bore (IIRC), but it works out ok for all of my 45s. Bigger than needed is much better than smaller than needed.

And this does not cause a problem with chambering a round as the "normal" 45 colt chamber is HUGE!

Oh yeah, now I remember why I make em so big! My ruger blackhawk has really big throats, around .454-455. So I size large, trying to fill them up. It has no effect on the rossi.

If you size at .452" you will probably be about right. But you know to be sure, you'll have to slug the barrel and then size .001 above that.

Thanks, Don, I too have a blackhawk so I'll likely pick up the lee 454 sizer. Hoping to find a 300 grain mold this week end. Local guy will be at tge gun show and I like to deal local when i can helps them stay around.

Lots of people get the throats reamed on a Ruger in .45C so that seems to tell me they are tight not loose.

Of course what matters is the gun at hand whether it's a rifle or pistola.

Only way to know on the throat size is to measure them like I did. Drive some soft lead balls or bullets through the cylinder and then measure them.

Many rugers were indeed sold with tight throats and need to be opened up to get decent accuracy. And it is possible that your's are small and need to have this done to them. And in that case, you would do well with a .452 sized bullet. It all depends on when the gun was made.

My ruger, on the other hand, was sold to me new in 1975, and it came with the mentioned .454 sized throats. I KNOW this because I did measure them. Oddly, it has always been very accurate, even before I started sizing large for it. I use to size at .452 and could not tell any difference when going to .4535. I have the convertible model with the 45 ACP cylinder, and I thought that I might could use that cylinder and rechamber it to 45C and get tighter chambers and throats. Not so though, it has the same size throats as the colt cylinder.

Mine is also a convertible and the 45 Colt has always been the most accurate out of the box pistol I've ever had. Doesn't count a couple of the wife's Buckmark silhouettes, but still it shoots commercial loads from any body and my handloaded commercial cast into 3 inches at 25 yards from a rest all day long if i do my part. All of the locally cast 45 Colt boolits seem to go 453+ and so far every Lee mold I own has cast "fat" with my alloys so I'm hoping that if I find the 300 gr it we follow suit. Time will tell.
