This has been a great job so far.

My own 62 is in good condition. More like an 8 or maybe even a 9 by your rating system. But therein lies the problem. With the 8 or 9 comes that really garish gloss varnish on the stock and pump. Plans call for stripping it off and using oil or stain plus oil like you've done to give it more of a classic old time look.

The action on mine is snappy and easy enough that I had not thought about doing an action job. The trigger is a little stiff but the break is nice. So I'm fairly happy with it in stock condition.

I used both stain and boiled linseed oil to get the stock and pump to look right... I suggest making sure both the pump and stock woods are at least the same type... I am not sure what the stock on mine was, but the pump is defiantly walnut. Which ever is darker, oil that wood naturally, then select a strain that matches as close as you can get... Make the stained wood darker than the naturally pulled wood, then lightly sand back to get the colors to match more closely. Finish the stain off with a couple of coats of oil to help preserve the wood... The extra oil won't darken the stain.

I've got some Watco Danish Black Walnut stain that I think would come close to that forearm.
You might pick up a can of that and try it.

Danish walnut was to light... I finally got it right by mixing it with some black walnut and some kind of cherry

i took it out to one of the popular shooting spots this week end and pumped a few hundred rounds at some cans. Had a great time. When I was getting ready to leave another guy showed up and swore it was a Winchester. I think i did good.

True, careful though next time he might report your 62 as a weapon of mass enjoyment!
