R92 357 Mag Scout Rifle

Post by Ranch Dog »

Has anybody seen one of these rifles? This is the R92-56002 that appeared in the 2011 catalog but I haven't been able to find one. I feared it dropped but it is still listed in the spec of the 2012 catalog.

Hi Michael,
I have not seen anything on them at the moment, but I do know you can get the sightbase and cheek piece as an option for the '92.

Well, did not get the 357 but I purchased the same rifle chambered in 44 Mag. It will wear a 2X-20 NcStar scout scope as I have one those on hand. I'm looking forward to comparing it against my Marlin 1894P with my 240, 265, and 300-grain bullets!

Bought the safety plug and DIY Action Job Kit from Steve's to tune this puppy up for a little hog hunting here on the rancho.

I have the 16" Rossi Puma 92 in .357 Mag.

At 4.8 pounds with virtually no recoil & minimal sound report it is a great gun for the little lady to pack when she accompanies you on a hunt.

Probably wouldn't need much if any stock trimming in regards to LOP either.

The rumor that a .357 Mag is too "light" for deer is absolutely false.

The cartridge is a much different ballistic animal shot from a closed action rifle with a 16" bbl than from a 6" bbl vented revolver.

I'll be able to compare it with my favorite of all time .44 Mag levergun.............the 18" bbl Ruger model 96/44.

I have a 16" ss92 that I just put a base, and a Tasco pro point on it. For back up sights I ordered a peep from Steves Gunz That replaces the lawyer safety. plan on getting it out today, to run some 310 Lees through it. It's going on a pig hunt in March, and a bear hunt in June. If Ohio makes it legal to use for deer, that will be my go to for that too.

This isn't a specific type of R92.

The Picatinny & the side cushion can be bought separately to facilitate mounting a pistol scope on the barrel and to cushion the sharp "slap upside the head" the .44 Mag &.454 Casull versions of the rifle can deliver.

I have cushions and rails for all 3 of my Rossi Puma 92 but don't use them.

Rossi has dropped these rifles with the stock cushion from production. The R92-56002 (38 Spl/357 Mag) is still listed in the catalog but the 44 Mag and 45 Colt have been dropped. My distributor said that the 56002 might be listed but it is not available. When I was buying some spare parts for my Rio Grande and Taurus pistols, I asked about the stock cushions and they are no longer available as well. The bottom-line is that if you want these two items on a rifle, the cushion and rail, you can buy this rifle for the same money as a rifle without them.

Looking forward to your report with the C430-310-RF. Do you know if Ohio is accepting pubic comment concerning the use of these types of rifles? Through my business I always have participated in those opportunities.

I' saw the Rossi cushions & rails available on Amazon.com not that long ago.

I received my Rossi 92 today or at least that is what it was listed as. It is a LSI Puma built by A. Rossi with the bolt safety (have the SGZ plug ready and waiting). This is a 20", 44 Mag, with the scout mount and high comb added to the stock. It is NIB, clean inside and out, and silk smooth. I'm really pleased with it and do not think it needs any work. I bought it for $400 which included the shipping from a LSI dealer that still had one. Installed a long-eye relief scope already and getting it ready to shoot my new 240-grain 44 caliber bullet and my 265 and 300-grain bullets will get a ride down its barrel as well.

I will get up some pictures as soon as I can.
