New Guy With Question
Hey, everyone,
Been looking around here for a little while, and this appears to be a friendly, informative site.
I just picked up a new 92 44 mag, Dick's in Indianapolis had 2 of them for $359 + tax, so I couldn't pass it up!
My question (at least my first one) is about barrel diameter. I went through a challenging time with a Marlin a few years back because of it's oversized bore.
Are the 92s fairly consistent? I will slug it sometime soon, but figured that folks here could share some insight.
Thanks
Bill

Re: New Guy With Question
Greetings Bill and welcome to the forum. The Braztech rifles are the most true to SAAMI chamber spec I've seen among the leverguns that I've worked with. You should find that your 44 Mag has a bore diameter of .4200 and a groove diameter of .4285. I've been shooting a .430 bullet out of mine with great success. I haven't done a search, in that I'm shooting bullets of my design, but I suspect that the Lee C430-310-RF would be a heck of a bullet shot out of this rifle.

Thanks for the reply, Michael.
I have one of your RD molds for marlin. I believe that it is 265 grain. how do these typically shoot out of the 92s?
I'm hoping that this gun will shoot cast. I'm looking forward to trying it out in the upcoming antlerless hunt here in Indiana.
Thanks
Bill

That rd bullet should do great. Ishoot the keith 429421 and it does real good in my r92.
I also size to .431 but do it mostly for my blackhawk to help fill the cylinder throats. My r92 measures at .429.

Re: New Guy With Question
Appreciate the responses. Looks like I'll need to buy a new sizer. The one that I have I opened up to almost .433 to try to get a Marlin to shoot cast.
Hopefully, I'll be able to size down the ones that I have already cast.

That's funny cause my friend gets .431 boolits cause the mold I use is for my Super Blackhawk 44mag which loves the .431 boolits just like yours

Re: New Guy With Question
I have a few of the fat ones (.4325) loaded up, so I ran them through a Lee FCD. They cycle ok in the 92, I hope to get out sometime soon to see how they shoot. Hopefully, the die didn't size them down too small.

You could pull a bullet and mic it, that would tell you whether the die resized it or not.parson48 wrote:I have a few of the fat ones (.4325) loaded up, so I ran them through a Lee FCD. Re: New Guy With Question
I may pull a couple, but I had tried to cycle a couple earlier and they would hang up They run through pretty smoothly now.
Still, I need to know jut what size the Lee FCD makes them.
I hope to get it to the range before too long. Here in Indianapolis, the nearest range in around 50 miles away.
