Loading gate stuck?
Loading gate stuck?
I am a new member and I just got my Rossi 92 in 357 with 20 inch barrel.
Got the model with a scope mount and put a red dot on for my old eyes.
Shoots cowboy cast lead loads great.
I noticed this on first loading.
After loading rounds into the tubular magazine, if I just work the loading gate a number of times,
without loading another round, the gate will lock up in the closed position.
This prevents me from loading any more rounds.
I can work the lever and chamber a round and I can unload or shoot the rounds in the magazine.
This seems to happen at random number of rounds.
I suspect the round I have just inserted is jamming the loading gate.
Did the Steve's Gunz video and otherwise everything else works nice.
I have had the loading gate out of the gun and polished it and the opening several times but it still does this.
I have also changed to a metal magazine follower.
Any thoughts?

Re: Loading gate stuck?
You know I get that sometimes too... I just drop the lever an inch or so and close it again....seems to clear the problem for me....
Re: Loading gate stuck?
Thanks Sosoomi,
Tried your suggestion, gate still stuck.
The gate is jammed in the closed position, won't move even a little bit.

Re: Loading gate stuck?
thanks for the related post, but mine in not jammed open.
It gets jammed in the the closed position.
I cannot load more rounds after it jams.
If I work the lever the round will chamber and the next one will also.
Everything else works fine.

Re: Loading gate stuck?
Mine does that every now & then. A slight lever movement frees it - just chalked it up to a Rossi quirk.

Re: Loading gate stuck?
yes, the cartridge I just inserted is jamming the gate closed.
I have found that if I move the lever a little enough times it will free the gate, without lifting the cartridge and carrier.
I can then load more cartridges.
Does this often.

Re: Loading gate stuck?
Maybe my problem was just me.
After watching Steve's Gunz Video again,
I noticed when he loads his 92,
he puts the each cartridge in about halfway and
uses the next cartridge to fully insert the cartridge
past the loading gate.
Only the last cartridge is fully inserted past
the loading gate with his finger.
I was trying to push each cartridge into the gun past
the loading gate and the gate would stick closed.
Tried Steve's method at the range and had no stuck
loading gate problems.
