Your exactly right RD. I went out to the hut and took mine apart and looked at how all the parts work together, the reassembled and cycled, jammed, then flipped it over and listened for the block to fall. That was so simple you'd think anyone could figure it out. I was thinking it had something to do with the carrier cause it always looked like it would not go to the right place at the right time. Now I understand that the carrier cant move if the block doesn't move first.

Sorry I doubted you.

No problem Don, that locking bolt has been flopping up and down since 1936 when the design was introduced.

UPDATE! On my way home from my extended trip, I happened upon a gun shop near one of my pit-stops. I showed the dealer there that issue with my rifle. He was stumped. He had no idea why anyone would design that function into a lever action. After discussing it for a while, I left with both of us still perplexed.

After I got home from my trip tonight & got settled in, guess what?

I got my RG4570B out...
Started "working it" again ...
Put it on a table upside down ...
Levered it ...
HANG! ...
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle SLIP! ...
Levered it ...
HANG! ...
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, SLIP! ...
Levered it ...
HANG! ...
Wiggle, wiggle, SLIP! ...
Levered it ...
HANG! ...
Wiggle, SLIP! ...
Levered it ...
NO hang! ...
Levered it! ... Levered it! ...Levered it! ...Levered it! ...

It MUST have just been a bur in JUST the right/wrong place!

It works slick as anything, now. (Through a full 360 degrees)

Just wanted to share the "rest of the story" with you!

Now! I just need a place to shoot it before I hit the road again!
ONE well-placed round beats a whole bunch of "spray & pray" any day!

I polished all areas of the block that come into contact with metal. It not only locks the bolt in place it also pushes the two piece firing pin inline to fire. The top of my block was very ruff from the machining process. The firing pin has to slide across the top of the block once the hammer strikes it. I wanted to make sure there was a minimal amount of resistance.

This may help give you a better idea what does what and why.
