I just started loading 45-70 for my Rio Grande. I have a FCD with my Lee Die set but cannot figure out how to make it work! It's not like the FCDin my .38/.357 set. It has No knob on top to adjust it. I followed the directions but couldn't get ANY crimp at all . Finally gave up and used the bullet seating die to crimp.
What am I doing wrong?

Re: Lee Factory Crimp Die Help
Actually, the two dies; the Factory Crimp Die (like your 45-70 Govt die) and the Carbide Factory Crimp Die (like your 38 Spl/357 Mag die), having nothing in common other than name. The guts of the die are completely different.
The Factory Crimp Die, your rifle die, is supposed to be "open" on the top. It is simply a barrel with a collet in it. Adjust it per the instructions and then run a cartridge through it. Look down through. Once the segments of the collet close flush, that is all the crimp that can be applied and all you need.
Do a search on the forum for "Factory Crimp Die". In a topic I go into detail on the difference of the die and the setup of the dies.
