We're pretty limited here in as to outfits with good service, but if I lived in the lower 48 I would check into this outfit http://republicwireless.com/ they offer a Motorola smartphone and voice data and text unlimited plan for $20 a month. This phone makes use of voice over Internet technology as well as other hot spot tricks and uses sprint i think when away from a wi fi data source.

If you can MetroPC's where you are and actually have service its only 40$ a month for unlimited data text and talk. Also there is no contract and you can get a pretty good smartphone right now for 50$. Only problem is there service blows in a-lot of areas outside of the city.
