Any emoloyees or company reps here on this forum??

Post by LittleBill »

In just disgusted. I got my replacement 454 yesterday and it looked better than the original yes, until I looked in the bore with a borescope. Where the front sight fovetail is there is a bulge in the bore, right in a land, and if course its right next to the crown.
Its not huge but you can plainly(without a borescope) see two distinct ridges from the sight being hammered in, probably with a 20ton press.
Keeo in mind this is after waiting 12 weeks for it, after being at Rossi for 8 weeks so the gunsmith could determine if the original could be repaired. I knee it couldnt about 2 seconds after seeing the receiver defects. I bought this $1000 gun in Sept/Ict of last year and have yet to get to fire a single round. This is Bullcrap.

Yes, Im sorry about that. I thought I was just editing, which I did but it apparently was as a quote. Again, my apologies.

As far as I know, there has never been a Rossi-USA employee registered as a user.

This is just a group of users that try to help other owners.

FWIW, I have seen those 'two distinct ridges from the sight' in the bore of a 20" R92, in 45 Colt. On the round barrel models in that caliber, there's darn little (insufficient, in my opinion) steel between the bottom of the dovetail and the bore.

The first one I got was not afflicted by this, just other issues. Cutting the barrel and tube back crossed my mind, but at what expense?

I'd just trade it in toward a 16" 45 Colt. I had one and it wasn't afflicted with this problem, despite me hammer/punch drifting half a dozen tight fitting front sights in and out until I found the perfect one. I don't have empirical proof, but I believe the 16" 45s have more steel between the bore and the bottom of the front sight dovetail.

The 357 has the thickest barrel steel around the bore. The larger the caliber...the thinner the barrel steel.

Once the barrel is bulged under the sight, removing the sight won't cure it, but I wonder if after removing it, if you fired some jacketed bullets through it, if they would iron it back out enough that it wouldn't be an issue?
Cataloging the world's bullets.
