RH 357 mag bolt retention pin issue?

Post by nickkobayashi »

Hi folks,

Hope someone can shed some light on the RH problem I have been experiencing.

After cleaning, I put the parts together and the lever action was smooth and crisp with no sign of binding at all. The bolt pin screw was not filed down and I tightened it up.

I was able to fire at least 50 rounds of 357 mag and 38 spl without issues. Then at about 60 rounds, the binding would be so bad that the bolt was locked up tight. I tried adjusting the pin screw and pushed the pin to the left and right. Nothing would unlock it. The only solution was to field strip it and reassemble it after. Then it was fine for another 60 rounds till it bind again ... the issue continues...

My diagnosis of the issue is either the retention pin somehow got pushed out of the position by recoil, or the heat expanded the metal pin. I used my hand load rounds with standard load.

I would love to hear if anyone has experienced my situation and what the remedies may be. It is a lovely little lever gun and shoots very accurately!

Thank you!

LOL, would it be the lower quality of manufacture by Rossi, as comparing to Marlin and Winchester? Thanks!

Google Kobayashi Maru.

Rossi’s can be a test of character.
