I fell in love with the 'antique' carbine at age 10, thanks to a Winchester ad. This one was made that same year. It has been shot very little but had acquired a bit of light rust, which was easily removed with a few passes of oiled 0000 steel wool. The sight hood was still in place. Just a touch of the case colors remain though the photo didn't capture them well. It was made in 1966 when you could still buy a lever action with a crisp 3# trigger and no external safeties or idiot warnings inscribed on the barrel. For all the fuss about post 64s being 'inferior' this is one of the smoothest 94s I've cycled. I've watched 94 Winchester prices climb steadily and then jump recently, with plain post 64s selling well over 500 bucks. Figured I better grab this one at $440.
This 94 feeds & ejects perfectly and is kind to brass. It don't shoot half bad either. I spent seven rounds of Federal 150 soft point getting it rough zeroed and these three standing unsupported from 100 yards in a pretty brisk breeze. Won't get me to the Palma Matches but I'm OK with it in the first 10 rounds.

Re: 94 'Antique' 30-30 Carbine
Very nice indeed, Sarge! My father bought one for $25 on clearance and I have it now. I drilled and tapped for the Redfield Jr. Scout mount from the same period. It allows the scope to be removed contains a leaf slight on the base. I rebore & rechambered it to 35-30.
When my dad bought the rifle, they also had it in 32 Win Spl as well for $25 and he has always regretted two rifles that day! Two years ago, I bought two Timber Scouts; a 30-30 Win and a 44 Mag. These are extremely fine firearms.

Thanks guys. RD, I was just thinking about the 35-30 while hunting 94s the other day. Tell us a little about it if you don't mind.

Not much to it. It is more a rebore than a rechamber. JES will do the rebores and CH4D sells the dies. Performance is similar to the 35 Rem, but the longer case neck is heavy bullet friendly.Sarge wrote:Thanks guys. RD, I was just thinking about the 35-30 while hunting 94s the other day. I ended up using the same bullet that I do with my 35 Rems, my TLC-190-RF. As of late, I have been shooting the Speer 180-grain FN through it as I feel the bore is a bit rough. I'm going to see if 100 will wear it in rather than lapping it.
