Starline new products
I was browsing the Starline website new products list.
Noticed they just came out with 30-30/30WCF brass.
.35 per case when you order 250 pcs for 87.00, free shipping.
Checked midway and they dont have any in stock yet.
so I ordered a 250 pkg.

I want to measure the neck thickness and compare it to winchester and prvi brass.

Re: Starline new products
Thanks for the info. I've stopped using SL, too many case separations with max loads. Went to PPU, Win, & Hornady in that order.
Also found out that SL new cases have little value when you try to sell them. I had 5K new cases that I could not sell at 50% of the new price with free shipping.

Re: Starline new products
Thank you RD.
I have a bag of the PPU that i found last year, not used it yet.
got plenty of winchester put back also.
I hope the SL is good quality.
I wonder why SL has started making 30-30 brass?
According to castbullet site it came out last month.
I thought 30-30 was a cartridge that was fading into history, according to the gun writers, it is outclassed by better cartridges.
30-30 is still one of my favorites rds.
Must still be a big demand for SL to tool up for 30-30.

Re: Starline new products
SL has introduced about one new case per month for the last couple of years. The fact they didn't already make .30-30 is odd. Gun writers? I have never read one other than us amateurs. I have some of their .357 brass (some un-loaded and some un-shot) but have sold way more than I've kept.

Re: Starline new products
Guess I've been lucky. I use SL brass in both 357 Mag and 45 Colt some of it has gone 6 times with pretty stiff loads and so far no mouth spits or signs of incipient separations and since reading of RD's troubles I do check before each loading session. I can get Winchester and SL locally and occasionally I see Remington in 38 spl and 357 but have never seen 45 Colt.

Re: Starline new products
Thats a shame that an American company like SL is making cheap, use once, throw away brass.
No wonder it is so cheap.
And i was getting ready to hot load some 357 mag SL brass, I found this out just in time.

I've been running 180 grain cast Penn Bullets with near max loads of H110 without a problem in my '92. Only ever tried one in the Blackhawk.Mad Trapper wrote:Thats a shame that an American company like SL is making cheap, use once, throw away brass.

Re: Starline new products
I was reading Pacos article, 357 mag and the literature.
He pushes a 200 gr rn in 38+P case at 52,000.
200 gr at 1876 FPS, only in rossi 92 and ruger.
I wanted to try it, but i am hesitant, have been for a while.
Ive got 357 and 38 SL brass, but not pushed them that high.

Re: Starline new products
My separations have been with the 38-55 Win, 44 Mag, 45 Colt, 454 Casull, 45-70 Govt. All within three load cycles, except with the 454 which blew with the once fired. When I contacted them they blamed my loading, firearm, reloading equipment; everything except themselves. When I asked about the brass alloy they are using they got rude. Starline is what it is, cheap brass and there's got to be a "real" reason it is cheap.
I have a bunch of 9mm Makarov that I could not get rid of so I'm just shooting it and leaving it on the range. I'm not going to invest in the brass prep time to reuse it.
