.44 Magnum/Special Chrono Info

Post by ironhead7544 »

Went to the range and chroned a few loads.

Firearms are: 20 inch R92, Ruger SBH 5 and 1/2 inch, Uberti Colt Open Top in 44 Special, 5 and 1/2 inch barrel.

Loads:

.44 Magnum - 10.0 grains of Unique - 200 grain cast RNFP

Rifle - 1475 fps

Revolver - 1170 fps

.44 Special:

4.5 grains Clays (MAX) 200 grain cast RNFP

Open Top - 760 fps

8.0 grains Unique (MAX) - 200 cast grain RNFP

Open Top - 960 fps

SBH - 1030 FPS

Rifle - 1290 fps

6.5 grains Unique - 245 grain cast Truncated Cone

Open Top - 820 fps

SBH - 880 fps

Rifle - 1080 fps

All are quite accurate. The 245 gr TC cast bullet shot into a ragged hole at 50 ft with the Open Top. The 200 grain RNFP .44 Magnum load is fun to plink with. Not much recoil but gets out to 100 yards quickly.

All loads fed perfectly in the R92.

The 8.0 gr Unique load with the 200 gr RNFP is about the same velocity as the first 44-40 loads.
