Dr Pearsons Universal Mount and Optic Height

Post by Mr Bowcat »

Good morning all,

I've been thinking about putting a red dot on my .44 R92. I came across the Pearson universal mount which appeals to me due to size and ease of mounting (not requiring any barrel drilling).

I have a Vortex Viper red dot not currently being used so thought that would be worth a try on the Rossi. However I'm unclear as to how hight it will all sit in use compared to the current Skinner ring. Is fitting a mount and red dot going to mess with my cheek weld?

Cheers,

B

I dropped a Holosun 403 RDS on my for some testing using the Rossi factory pic rail. It did surely affect cheek rest. I am going to try a micro dot like is used on pistols in the same place. I do believe it will be much better. I just put the 403 on for some load development, with no intentions of leaving it there, although if the micro dot works well, I may leave it. CDNN has a smoking deal on the Riton micro dot now for $89. With a pic adapter it was $99. Supposed to be delivered today.

Cheers Chris,

The Viper is a micro red dot so looks like this may work for me.

Yes. I use a strap-on cheek riser for red dots or scout scopes on the rail. It’s relatively quick to remove for iron sights. My butt stock is not pristine, so I’ve been pondering a drill-thru cheek riser.

Looks like there may be several options for using a cheek riser on a model 92 butt stock ...

I have this one on an M1A, and really like it. It is very well made.

It is also available on Amazon, if you prefer.

I like my rigid Kydex cheek rest. A fixed 7/8 inch rise fits several of my rifles.
