Boyd’s Gunstock

Post by HarryAlonzo »

Boyd’s is running a good sale on laminations and laser engraving. I’m not going for it, but it got me to thinking’ . . .

Has anyone tried a Boyd’s stock on a 92? I’ve only purchased one Boyd’s stock, for a Savage 99, and it required a bit of fitting.

I’m always on the lookout for a cheap 92 with a battered stock.

Ordered and bought one around 2012 for a Brno 452. Fitted with just a little pressure, no work needed on the stock at all. It was good quality stuff back then, can't comment on what it's like now.

Specifically with the Boyd's Rossi 92 rifles the stocks have been somewhat problematic. When they first came out they had ONE size/fit option and by implication 'one size must fit all'. Turned out not to be a good assumption. It did not specify whether it was 44sp/Mag/.45 Colt, .454 or .38/357. Some of the guys bought it expecting a drop in fit and found the hole through the forend was the wrong size. Apparently Boyd'd did listen and they are now offering three options for the round barrel plus the .44 in the octagonal.

So the question is not Boyd's in general but is specific to the 92 stocks on offer from Boyd's since they maybe got their act together for that model gun and realized different sizes/fits were required. Given how long the 92s have been being produced and the fact that Rossi claimed to have reblueprinted them for CNC manufacture there STILL may be some fitting required but the hope is that the fitting would be relatively minor.

Harry,
You are the man who's posted the most recent youtube footage. I did a search for the 92 Boyd's stocks and found a few vids you may not have posted but that you may have already seen. Also found a several for levers other than Rossi.

Ah, so, the Triple Black review. I had forgotten that he’d swapped stocks. “Not a quick drop-in,” according to him. If I ever do this, I’ll plan on it being a project. Thanks!

They seem to have the Marlin down. I expect the Rossi is much better than when they came out. Especially now that they've got 4 choices but I would plan on some fitting even now.
