On the sideways feeding, you need to search out "shimming" of the right side feed rail/cartridge guide. I can't remember the clearance specs, but I recall that its basically being just shy of things binding up with max cartridge spec diameter.

But also, like I said in the last post, gravity makes the cartridge lay in the carrier (lifter). Once the cartridge begins to move forward, its rim is free as a bird and slow cycling of the lever/bolt will give gravity ample time to screw up the works, rather than _make_ it work.
