Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and thanks for all the info. I ended up sending it to a gunsmith and he hasn’t been able to get it to work yet..... I believe he will end up sending it back to Rossi next week

You didn't ask but I'd really reconsider sending it back.

When my Rossi 92 in .44 mag acted like that it was just that the mag spring was too strong. After I trimmed it down a bit I never had that problem again.

ok. sent the 92 back to Rossi. their answer is " the 454 Casull was not intended to shoot the 45 Colt ". They boxed it back up and sent it back to me...... So it will still not chamber the 45 colt rounds.

I load straight wall cartridges, so when I want lighter .454 loads, I use .454 brass and load to 1400-1500 fps (255 grain lead slug), which would be a pretty hot .45 Colt load with a 16' barrel.

This also eliminates the carbon ring build up from using the shorter .45 colt brass.

.45 Colt brass and loads can be used without feeding issue if you handload to a longer OAL.

I agree with Blue in regard to loading .454 brass light OR IF there is such a thing as '.45 BASIC' brass that you can find that is essentially trim to length .45 brass that might match the thickness of .45 Colt trimming some up to .454 length and loading it to .45 Colt levels.

Assuming .454 brass is going to be built pretty heavy you might need a reasonably stiff load to get it to expand and seal the chamber. The .45 Basic brass might allow lighter loads but I dare say it would probably be a more expensive solution than just loading .454 mild.

Your Rossi still feeds .454 and Rossi didn't screw that up trying to carve a massive feed ramp for .45 Colt.
