Skinner rear sight

Post by Gunna1day »

Just been on skinners website and found this barrel mounted rear sight for a 92.
Anyone had any experience with this model? Any good? I'm in Australia so I have limited access to most US stores. Cheers.

I used it on a 357 Mag 92 and liked it, liked it a heck of a lot better than the Steve's Gunz safety replacement sight.

I can't speak to the barrel mounted Skinners but I have a receiver mounted peep on my Marlin 1895 45/70 and the workmanship on the sights is superb.

I put a Marbles tang peep sight on a my Chiappa 44-40. I like the classic look it gives and it performs so nice. I wanted something different for my SS Rossi 357 though and put the rear Skinner sight on it. To me it just seemed the Skinner sight was a better match to the sleek stainless steel R92.

I have to say that I agonized over this decision a bit but once it was on and I took a few shots all those worries went away. Sure the sight radius is a little shorter but I have not found it to be an issue. No regrets.

Did the factory front sight work with it?

I bought a front sight blade from Skinner. You adjust it to your liking by filing it.

The front stock sight worked fine for me.

I had exactly the same experience on my stainless 20 inch 44 mag and 45 colt rifles .
The factory front sight did not work for me, I switched to a Marble Arms bead, 0.530” tall.
Seems to work from mild to wild on my guns out to 100 yds. Haven’t gone past that, but there is room to in the adjustment of the Skinner. I like it!
