I'm not so sure I agree that the rear sight is better or worse.
AFAIK it is simply the difference between a buckhorn and a flat top blade.

I personally like the buckhorn sights although the Rossi one is somewhat simple.
A receiver peep, tang peep or maybe even a ladder would be preferable but the buckhorn can be used to lob lead further into a general area with more precision than a flat blade is typically capable of.

Almost all sight complaints are in regards to the rear site on the newer style rifles so you're in the minority...just like I am about the Lee Safety Scale :).
