In looking through some of the threads here it looks like the '92s will handle up to about 35K pressures. Am I reading this correctly? Specifically talking 45 Colt and 357 Magnum.

The question would be more about the 45 Colt vs. its 14.0K PSI SAAMI limit. In my use, I load the 45 Colt in my Rossi to 35.0K PSI. So the next question is, how did I know it was loaded to 35.0K PSI? Well, I have pressure trace equipment.

The 357 Mag at 35.0K PSI is at its SAAMI spec pressure.

I often suspected that the SAMMI spec on the 45 Colt is out of respect for SAA's possibly even old cases. I've been looking at loads that say for Ruger and TCs and a lot of them top out around 30K. I've always consider the 92s to be able to handle those loads. On the other hand I know my guns, loads are worked up carefully and I don't recommend that someone jump right in with both feed.

The spec for .45C is based on black powder loads right? Guess I could look it up...

The SAAMI spec for the 45 Colt was for the firearms initially intended for the cartridge. The PSI limit is for smokeless powder.

An excellent example of a similar limit is the 35 Rem. Its low limit, 33.5K PSI, is based on the original pump and semiauto rifles that Rem designed. I shoot that cartridge in a modern, Rem bolt rifle up to 65K PSI.

When I load .45 Colt for my R92, I go by the book. I've never had a problem yet.

I did it. Got the coffee pot fired up and read it. Interesting article. I'm finally getting around to loading a 300 grain load for my 45 Colt-long over due. A big thanks to Mad Trapper for the article

Coffee and 92s go together
The rossi 92 is a good solid rifle, a bit in the rough sometimes from the factory, but can be easily finished and tuned.
