480 ruger

Post by trekker »

Gents is it correct Rossi only did a run of 100 of these? This is what is heard on various forums but not sure if it was verified. We had it advertised as an option in Australia at one point but I don't think any ever came in. If the numbers were only 100 its doubtful we would have seen any certainly. Has there ever been a push to get rossi to make any more. Seems like a grand idea in a lever.

Just found the thread here about it. 100 it was. wow, that's not a lot. I bet they are worth a few coins when they come up for sale.

I was fortunate a few years ago to find a new old stock one at a local gun show. I paid around $400 US without a box or papers but it was unfired. Now I cast bullets and reload my own. It's my favorite Rossi lever. I absolutely love the double magazine tube that can be loaded through the slot. I love the big fat 390 grain slugs that take any game. I like the relatively mild recoil and the fast follow up shot capability. I've seen a couple this past year that sold in the $1500-$1800 US range, though I would never sell mine, I like it too much.

I'm not sure how Rossi decides what they're going to produce, currently there's a huge demand for any Rossi levers and the company doesn't seem to care. I doubt they care about the fringe popular cartridges like the 480.

They come up on Gun Broker every once in a great while. I think there was one a few years ago, seems like it went for $800.00..

Just a few months ago there was some noise here on one that sold online for too much.

When the price went crazy I sold mine. I sold my .480 for $1700.00 on gunbroker. The Rossi 92 .480 was a little too much for my old 76 yr old bones .I have the Rossi 92 .357,.44mag, a real old Rossi .45colt and a marlin .41mag. I know were there are new Rossi.357,.44 mag for $600.00 or a little over.

Im pretty happy with my 357 and almost stretched to getting a 44rem as well for the same usage. The 480 was playing on my mind mostly as a cool novelty to own. But at that level of rarity its out of my reach.

I would gladly pay $800 for one today. I didn't want one previously but the big bore stuff is starting to interest me.
