Oz judge wrote:Wow Michael that forcing cone issue really kinda seals the deal doesn't it. Like I said I was getting about 6" off hand at 40 yards that's probably all I'll get. But I haven't given up on the CJ yet, I just haven't been doing much shooting as of late. Ideally I want to get the group down to around 4 " off a bench @ 50 yards & I'll be happy
I know this is sort of an old thread, but I'm getting 4" groups at 100yds (bench rest of course) using the 225 FTX. Other rounds I've tried (including the Buffalo Bore Heavy) are not even close to that.

I also used a chrono to test that round, found it had an average of 924 fps muzzle velocity. What I did notice is that there was a really wide variation - from a low of 902 fps to a high of 950 fps.

Still working up a good handload. Takes some time since I'm upping the load slowly (I'm a coward like that sometimes). LOL.

I had one of these briefly. They were popular hear in Australia as the closest thing to semi-auto carbine for small game etc, since gas operated autos difficult to get here. I liked the format but the main issue for me was the noise. With a revolver rifle stocked agains the shoulder you have that cyclinder gap a short distance to your ears, unlike a revolver handgun which is at least at arms length. I remember trying different earplugs but it was still ringing my ears too much so I sold it.

Wow I remembered my password lol.
Haven’t done a lot of shooting this past year but this is the latest.
I pulled the CJ Out 2 months ago & couldn’t believe it. It was shooting great! It was the best it has ever done .
I got 4 hits on a 20 leter drum at 200m from my last 7 , 230gr S&B hp. I was also getting 5 inch off hand groups @ 40 meters & 1 1/2” at 25m off hand. It or I have never shot this CJ so well . Even some of the buckshot loads were grouping tighter. & with know change. Stranger still it hasn’t been cleaned for about 300 rounds????
A 61 yo woman friend of ours fired 15 rounds & absolutely loved it , so much so she bought one last week. One round that previously was hopeless is now one of the best. Winchester sxz 2 1/2” 3 pellet 000 buck. Winchester pdx1 disc rounds are still the best accuracy wise.

My next hunting trip i’m Going to give the CJ another good go. I have loaded some hard cast 452 rnfp coated bullets & there working well so i’ll Use them , along with some 000 buck loads. I want to start loading for the 410 CJ specificly hog hunting & self defence type loads. I’ll start a new thread for this any ideas chime in please.

What reloading press are you using for the 410?

No press as of yet. I’m gonna buy a Roll Crimper & maybe a lee loader type or make my own bits & pieces . I don’t think it is worth spending to much on a mec jr ect , as the fire formed shells potentially will be way over sized. I note that many of the 2 1/2 “ pdx1 disc type shells heads have splits .
I just bought a 6 cavity.395 round ball Mold from track of the wolf . Had other ideas about cast .410 cal hollow points & running them backwards inside a wad. Thinking a .410 inside a wad might engage the rifleing .
I also have a .450 mini ball Mold to load in the colt & well as a few other 45 molds .
My expectations are a blunt nosed or wide flat meplat of 50/50 mix of pure lead & wheel weights , coated with hi tech coating for the colt loads & coated or not for the 410.
I totally understand that these aren’t accurate guns & don’t expect anything better than 4” at 50 yards with the colt . And if I can get 1 foot patterns at 20-25 yards or better that would be great. Because $2.70 per round of the federal 3” 000 buck x5 loads i’m Lucky to get 3 inside a foot at 20 yards & maybe a 4th on paper somewhere & most times the 5th is right off the paper .

I have been using brass Magtech 410 shells. They use the same large pistol primers as 45lc.
I've been shooting them in a Stevens model 311 while developing the loads, there is very little published load data for the Magtech. Once I am comfortable with the load, I will test them in the Circuit Judge, have to be cautious considering the thin cylinder walls. It will be interesting to see if the shells form to the stepped diameter of the cylinders and what effect that may have on ejection.
Magtech 410 brass shells, .430" X 1/8" nitro cards over powder, Stretch-36 plastic shot wads, .450 overshot cards sealed with elmers glue. Ballistic Products stocks these items. Using Lil'Gun powder, referenced published plastic shell loads, started below, shot over chronograph for reference compared to factory shells, worked slowly up.

You may have noticed that the point of aim is quite different between 410 and 45, I have a Redfield Counterstrike optic on mine. It has a 3moa red/green dot AND a red laser beam. I have the green dot sighted at 100 yards for the 45lc, the red laser is sighted at 30 yards for the 410. This setup has worked well.

Wow the kind of feed back i’m Looking for thanks mate.
I to have wondered hard about the chamber step , but honestly I doubt there’s enough pressure to effect the case that far down.
My main concern is the Elmer’s glue holding under handling & recoil being a revolver & jamming. My casull jammed at the loading gate on my last pig hunting trip while a huge boar run out of his tunnel at the muzzle length away, ripped my little kelpie in the arm pit & took of & I couldn’t do anything. So that’s got me worried about reliability a little more now. 200 lbs of survivor boar “ they know to stand there ground inside there tunnels & bash the dogs when they enter. The farmer told me they will not come out . But if they do they will hit a dog on the way out & there off. It’s pretty wild fun lol. I know the CJ is a bit light for that , but that’s why I want the hardest hitting circuit Judge loads in 45 colt & 410 I can get. & that’s also exactly the same scenario for home defence.

Btw is there more capacity in the brass 410 or 444 marlin? Thanks again I will look it up later anyway.
