I agree. I've always liked the .41 Mag for both hunting and LEO use if you had to use a revolver. It just never seems to catch on.

I had a 7 1/2" Blackhawk in .45 Colt I bought new at the local drug store/gun shop (small town in SD) new out the door for $207 in 1990. At the time, people looked at me funny for getting one in .45 Colt rather than .44 Mag, and it had to be special ordered. It ended up on the wrong side of a divorce settlement and I need to get another one. It will cost me more than $207. 5 1/2" Blackhawks are common around here in .45 Colt, and 6 1/2 are common in .357, but I may have to order a 7 1/2" Blackhawk.

I've got a Super Blackhawk in 44 mag that I picked up in October to use for deer hunting. But I also have a uberti 1873 clone in 357 mag. I would like to add a blackhawk or vaquero in 45 colt soon.

I just took it to the range for the first time since the grip switch. Started off with 250gr rnfp over 9 gr of Universal and had no problems with it. It was still good to go with a 300 gr XTP mag over 21gr IMR4227. Then I loaded a single Buffalo Bore 325gr. That was all I wanted of that, it's a pinky buster for sure with those loads. For cowboy loads up to moderate, I had no problem with the birdshead.

I've had a 7 1/2" Blackhawk in .45 Colt since 1990 ($207 new, out the door) and I more recently acquired a 4 7/8 convertible Blackhawk in .45 Colt/.45 ACP. I had been considering sending my 7 1/2" Black hawk to Ruger to have them fit it for a .45 ACP cylinder, but I got a great deal on my 4 7/8" in almost new condition.

I've noted that depending on the load the 7 1/2" barrel is anywhere from 30 fps to 100 fps faster than the 4 7/8" barrel but usually the shorter barrel has a lower standard deviation in velocity regardless of the load. It's the only gun/caliber/barrel length example I have where that's the case as it's almost always the opposite with longer barrels having a lower SD in any given caliber and bullet weight. The 4 7/8" Blackhawk is also the more accurate of the two, despite the shorter sight radius but I do note a bit more recoil with the same loads. If I knew then what I know now however, I'd have got my Blackhawk in a 4 7/8" barrel length 23 years ago instead of a 7 1/2".

I'm going to play with them tomorrow so I'll post some pics, although they are pretty generic looking wood gripped Blackhawks.

I had a blued 5.5" Blackhawk in 45 colt that I had for a few years and sold it to finance my Rossi. Then I was thinking of a 454 Casull revolver but couldn't get a hold of one locally and then this SBH 4 5/8"stainless one showed up at the store earlier in the week on sale for $100 off so i bought it.. Looks like I'm in the 44 mag game once again! Had it out a couple times, seems a bit more accurate than my BH 45 was right out of the box, and I worked on the 45 some trying to get it to group, including enlarging the throats.. .. I never really had a nice holster for my BH 45 so I ordered a Sourdough Pancake from Simply Rugged along with the chest rig for the SBH.. Should be a good fit and go with me out into the country this summer! +guns

I still want something with more punch someday, I see Ruger is returning with a 480 SRH and Alaskan, so that one might be the ticket..
My newest Ruger..

Greetings
Have several... all either 45 Colt or 41 Magnum. And all in storage till I return up north there. Peru has a ban on magnums unless a police officer owned it first. And 45 Colt ammo is about $2 a cartridge.

The first gun I ever bought, I think it was around 1988 and cost me 207.00...

Its not even broken in yet. I bet it doesn't have 300 round through it.
