Just Rambling

No matter how much I've tried over the last few years to make other bullets work as well (considering accuracy), including various other jacketed bullets and a lot of different cast bullets, the somewhat inexpensive 240 gr Hornady XTP's still seem to stand out. Maybe I should just buy a couple of thousand of them and call it a day - then point my attention to tweaking another caliber. With my current limited abilities and resources, I don't think I can improve on this one.

Yeah, I would call it good. Figure out home many would need and start buying them.

Gotta agree. I'd call that one THE load for that rifle.

Looks like them. It's Hornady part number 44200.

I've been tinkering with them since I started reloading .44 mag about 7 years ago and still haven't seemed to beat them in accuracy .... at least after a whole lot of shots at 50 yards. I haven't shot the 44 very much at 100 yards, so I suppose I'll spend the next several sessions at 100 yds and see what happens.

I've found that the same type XTP's in .357 have an almost equal ability in my .357 R92 with 16 inch barrel, but since the .357 is using the basic factory iron sights, it's really not a good comparison to the .44 mag with the Weaver Scout scope. I will say though that 158 gr Nosler JSHP bullets may still hold a slight edge over the 158 gr XTP's, at least in my R92 - with less than stellar eyesight and reduced equilibrium.

As to the .44 magnum, since I've finally settled on the choice of jacketed bullet, I can get back to proving out the LeadHead 265 gr GC RNFP cast bullet. At 50 yards, both bullets shoot fine concerning windage, but the cast bullet does shoot about 5 inches lower.

Thank you JD for the info.
I may have to try those hornady XTPs.
I have a 92 trapper that i had cerakoted and installed a folding rear sight.
At 50 yds it is right on, not tried long rang with the folding leaf.

due to my VA meds i have a serious equilibrium problem along with decreased eye sight.
Carrying a nice short carbine is best for me.
tempted to get the SBR tax stamp and SBR a mares leg.

This is one from iraq vet 8888.

If i did this i would install a folding rear sight, get it sighted in, sling swivels, leather butt cover with cartridge loops, and be set

very sexy indeed.
very tempting also.
dont know how much longer i can hold out,
either in 357 or 44, would be sweet.

I might be inclined to have a leather padded cover on the buttstock. A 300 grainer chugging along at 900 fps would be some what vicious....

Missionary that is very true, thank you for the idea.
Those 300 gr t-rex loads would put a hurtin on the shoulder.
I would carve on the butt cuff, (LIL THUMPER)
Maybe attach a recoil pad someway.
