Came across this article today.

Im about two hrs northeast of monroe cty, I have spotted and taken bobcat, and seen black panther, but no way could they take down a horse or take a pit bull or husky.
I have an elderly neighbor that raises cattle and has told me he has seen 200 lb plus cats roaming between his farm and mine, but noone really believed him and brushed him off.
One reason I bought the rossi 92 44 mag trapper, I will be going out on the back property in the heavy brush preparing for hunting season next month, looking for signs and such.

Last month I purchased a 4.5" SBH 44 mag, I should probably take it out and sight it in.

I ordered a simply rugged sourdough pancake holster for the SBH.

They say this holster will keep a pistol tight against your hip, and have fast and easy removal.

My understanding of the large cats is they kill to eat and not for the "thrill". I'd sure like to see some more details. None the less do be careful in the deep woods.

Make smoke,

Make smoke,
thank you 3 wheels.
Did you catch the part where they said the farm was close to an apartment complex.

doesnt make any sense, if a big cat was coming into a populated area its because he is starving.
And he killed three horses, siberian husky and a pit bull, but didnt feed.
only other thing i can think of is that it is rabid.
old timer told me once, late august, the dog days of summer is when you see rabies in local wildlife, coons and such.

A big cat in an (American) urban area is bad enough..........a rabid one pushes that off the chart.

Make smoke,
But not unheard off........ The Ghost and the Darkness is a 1996 movie based on true events about a pair of lions that killed (depending on which account) between 28 and 135 people in and around the construction site of a railroad in the late 1890's.

I've seen a few big cats on the ranch and I carry my Rossi 92 480 with me whenever I'm out. A big cat will kill a dog just because but a horse is a killed for a meal. It's not unusual for a horse to get sliced up, then get away from the cat and only later drop dead from blood loss. We lost a good horse that came running back from pasture like it was on fire. It busted clear through the closed barn door. It was so torn up from a big cat that the vet said it needed to be put down. That horse just stood there bleeding and shaking.

A shot from the 480 throwing up dirt or gravel sends a cat on it's way. If it didn't, I wouldn't hesitate to put the critter down. Keep your head up and keep scanning those big rocks that the cats like to lay on. The cat is almost always higher up than you are and watching your horse.

Thank you Trail Boss.
Ive been out this morning, went to a LGS in Corbin,(up the road from the first KFC).
Buddy of mine works the counter, asked him what they knew, he said he heard they were miniature horses, but not sure, said he saw pics of there throats ripped out.
He said there were large paw tracks, but he said fish and game are telling people to move along, nothing to see here.
Mountain Lions have been spotted in the area, but fish and game wont confirm this.
local ranchers say they have gone out in their pastures to check their cattle and have seen lions mounted on the backs of the smaller cattle or calf's, sort of like a pair of horses or cattle mating.
A couple of old timers told me a few years back that they have stopped coon hunting, cause the big cats will lay up on the tree limbs.
I remember back around 2009, I was checking my trap line one morning after a heavy snow, looked up, about 150 yds away saw a cat sitting under a tree, swinging his long tail back and forth.
Hard to make out his size or color, tail was extremely long though.
I raised my rifle, and he slowly stood up, and casually turned and walked down the other side of the ridge and disappeared.
You are right about the high cliffs, people tell me they will be going down the road and are positive they saw a large lion up on the cliff.
