Why 158 gr +P loads? Are you loading them into 38 Spl cases? The cases are usually the limiting factor for chamber pressures. 38 Spl cases are usually loaded to SAAMI max pressures of 17,000 psi. Loaded to +P pressures you're looking at up to 20,000 psi. The Rossi 92 in 38/357 cal. was designed to easily handle 357 magnum loads IN 357 MAGNUM CASES with the pressure max of 35,000 psi.

Yeah and the R92 receiver can handle 50K.

Pity the standard slip fit mag tube can't handle the extra high pressure recoil.
Depending on how allow it's put together we've had examples where magnum loads have pulled the mag tube out of the receiver.

Yeah I didn't write that the mag tube would stay in.

I don't think I'd go 50-K... LOL

but I've pushed the window for sure.
1650 fps from the 45 colt and 44 mag with nominal weight cast bullets is about all the recoil I want or can keep in a reasonable group size at 100yds.

if I want more recoil I have a Browning 85 in 45-70 it'll do mid level 2 loads with 435gr bullets.
AKA.
all I really need/want for more than one magazine worth of shooting.

Shooting 95% cast bullets, either gas checked or plain based, 1600 fps with the 44 mag R92 and 240-270 gr bullets is my accuracy node out to 100 yards. I may shoot Hornady XTP 240 gr bullets a bit faster, but not a whole lot faster.

I'm still trying to remember if SAAMI even spec's a 44Mag +P round?

I've never heard of one.
they actually reduced the max pressure on many cartridges like the 44 and 357 so a Plus-P would simply put them right back where they started.

These are not rated +P, but they work real well on Texas pigs.
357 Magnum 180 grain Hornady XTP and Hodgdon's H110 powder.

SD (standard deviation) is crazy low with a 20 inch barrel.

Chrono tells all...

I wrote with Buffalo Bore about their 44 Magnum +P+ Load with a 340 Grain bullet.
That load is 1478 fps, from a Ruger Super Blackhawk, with a 7.5" Barrel.

Buffalo Bore say, that the Rossi 1892 is MUCH Stronger, than ANY Revolver
And will handle that load, all day long, as long as you single load it, It will NOT get through the Mag.
From what I can find +P+ is typically SAAMI 120% Loads.

If I compare with other .44 Mag loads, and speed in longer barrels, The Buffalo Bore +P+ 340 Grain load should do around 1700 fps, from a 20" Barrel. (Ouch my shoulder)

As the chamber of a 357 Mag is likely thicker, than a 44 Mag, it should handle +P+ loads easily.
Happy Shooting from Greenland

And there is a disclamer on the box that says they are NOT RESPONSIBLE for dislocated shoulders!

340 grain bullet at 1478 fps.

That's gonna hurt - on both ends.
