+p loads in the 92

Post by Johnnyjr »

Are plus p loads safe in this
Rifle. With either 357
Or 38s. Bullet is Lyman
158 gr gas check. Lyman
Mold 158 156. Which brings
Me to another question. Which
Crimping groove do you use.

that question is very subjective and you will need to decide it for yourself.

That said, the 92 action is very strong and some of us are very comfortable going to near max and/or over max loads in ours. Mine shoots better the harder I drive it, and I use Lil'Gun with great results using Zero brand jacketed bullets and a book max load.

I run loads in my 2 '92s that I'll admit are hot. They both (357 AND 45 Colt) are heavy for caliber and use undisclosed amounts of either H110 or Lil" Gun. All of them were carefully worked up. With the current component situation it's no fun expending same, but it beats blown guns and missing body parts.

I stumbled across this video today, guy shoots a 45-70 plus P in a Henry all weather.
It locked up after one round.

Try here:

or here:

Same guy with a Henry .45-70, might be more but the first video above claims to be .45-70 for self defense and the second one claims to be .45-70 Buffalo Bore.

Personally, I will load .45-70 Warm for use in my 1886 Winchester or my 1895 Marlin but I will not load it Ruger #1/Siamese Mauser Hot.

For the 92 I see no problems with .38+P but will stick to book values for .357 Mag.
Likewise with the .44 Mag version I might go .44 SP +P but I'll stick to book values for .44 Mag.
Max book should be enough for me and I own enough revolvers in the same calibers that I don't exactly want +P Magnums lying around.

I've got a 357 Magnum 180 grain Hornady XTP hollow-point bullet over 13.3 grains of H-110.
They run 1500+ FPS.
That's not really a +P load, but it does give the rifle a touch of recoil!

Devastating on Texas pigs.

A Henry is not an 1892 based rifle nor is any Henry made to take hot loads.

That is correct.
would never run plus P in a henry, they are not made for it.
92 can handle plus P no problem.
Reading Paco Kellys torture testing with rossi 92, scares me.
He took a 38 special plus P case with a 200 grain bullet and bypassed a 30-30 load.
I wont even post the load data, its on the internet though, just google paco and rossi 92
