Rossi Rifleman

I got a box of Hornady lead 255 CB .454 dia. bullets and was going to try them in my 92 rossi 45 colt. Will the slightly bigger dia make any difference.I have only used .452 dia before.

Those should be reasonably soft given that they are listed as 'cowboy'.
Hornady lists loads for them in their X manual. The .45 Colt rifle section that are a little lighter in some cases than in the pistol section. I think they are trying to keep the velocity down a little on them to around 1000 FPS but a few loads exceed that.

The .454 diameter on the lead shouldn't hurt anything but you may want to slug the bore to check the fit. I'd check the bore anyway pretty often when firing them to make sure everything was ok. I've seen some barrels come into the shop that leaded up pretty darned fast.

I've been using .454 cast in my .45LC Rossi ever since I've had it...

Before I bought the rifle I did some research and it said that was the correct calibre for the rifle, so I bought a load of bullets and been using them ever since.

Since then, its been said that modern .45LC uses .451 bullets, the same as .45ACP.

But .454 hardcast goes fine though my rifle....

I read once someone used 454 but never tried them myself. My barrel does lead up easy but I keep cleaned now after use so it hasn't been a problem.Thanks for advice now I have to load some up.

I found early on that my 45 Colt liked fat bullets. My hunting load is the Lee 454300 w/gas check sized 454 and sitting on a lot of either H110 or LilGun. It works and yes it's a bear off the bench with just a t-shirt. Not too bad with winter weight hunting clothes.

My Braztech 45 Colt (YOM: 2011) and 454 Casull (YOM: 2012) shared the same barrel stock; bore of .443" and groove of .451".

My various Rossi 92s have all shot the Nosler 250gr (.450) and Hornady 250 XTP (.452) really well at around 1700-1800fps. They also shoot cast .452 and .454 powder coated bullets well, especially the 230gr truncated cone at velocities between 1000-1500 FPS. One of these days I’ll slug it.

and then there were/are those Ruger revolvers that had throats so tight compared to the bore diameter that nothing shot particularly well.
