A little reloading

Helped a friend a bit with some reloading.
He put together 400 9mm on his Dillon. Second time he's really run it.
He wasn't exactly having fun putting Unique through the powder dump although it ran pretty well if he worked the handle smoothly and completely.

I assembled ~75 5.56 ball rounds for him that he'd already prepped the brass for using a current generation Rock Chucker.

I find loading 5.56 reasonably easy if a bit tedious. Had two casings damaged during the seating operation.
One folded for some reason, looked like the bullet got started and then hung up enough to start the case folding but it was seated to about the right spot on the bullet. It should not have been able to fully seat and crush the case but it did. The other managed to damage the case mouth. Pulled them popped the primers out salvaged the powder and the bullets and crushed the cases flat.

Ran out of bullets for my .357 m92. Have to cast some. This quarantine is good for something, I'll do that today. Have plenty of powder and primers.

Archer,

As you probably know, using a boat tail or even a bevel base bullet makes loading any of the 22s a lot easier, for that matter it make loading any caliber easier.

johniv,

That's about all I did for the first two weeks of the lock down, cast, coat, and size, and repeat in the next diameter! I thought that I had enough lead to last for several years, but no, I'm almost out again. BUT I have a lot of bullets now just waiting to be used.

I saved a little of my lead because I ordered a new mold for my 357. AN Arsenal mold that's a copy of the old Keith 358429. I have an old Lyman mold that I have used for a lot of years. But it's a two holer and after getting use to the 4-5-and 6 hole versions, I just can"t sit down with the two hole ones anymore. Seems like I cast forever and have almost nothing to show for it.

I did cast a few hundred with my 41 mag 410459 SWC 2 hole mold. That bullet and gun (Redhawk) are the most accurate combo for a handgun that I own, and I'm afraid to try another mold for fear that it won't be as good. A few years back I did get a wide flat nose mold for it, and it's no where near as accurate as that SWC, so I'll just stick with what I have. I don't shoot it a lot anyway as I prefer the single actions.

55 grain FMJBT Hornady bullets, more or less self starting, so that shouldn't have been the issue.

BTW,
I have in the past noted that bulk buys of these Hornady bullets may have different nose lengths, resulting in different OAL for the finished cartridges using the same seating die settings.

Been cleaning some more brass the past few weeks.
Need to stop polishing the bbs and load some.
