Hi all , I’m after any advice for loading 000 buck , .400 balls or bullets , pellets, disc’s or any other hard hitting projectiles to a range of 20-25 yards. Any ideas that “ might “ fit or work ??? Thanks.

I don't know poop about the CJ, but I tried every slug I could find with my Savage Model 24 (22/410 O/U). The challenge there was getting the 22 and 410 at the same Point of Aim. Brenneke slugs were the clear winners, and were also the most expensive slug on the planet.

I was having major problems with my I pad while writing this thread , so I cut it short.
I just ordered 2 x books & the 410 rifles brochure from ballistic products, books were something like small bore shotguns & the buckshot loaders manual. I also got a 410 Roll Crimper from them.
My goal is to load the hardest hitting 410 loads that are safe to use in the circuit judge for self defence & close range pig hunting. I like to load 2 buckshot & 3 x 45 colt in the CJ.

I sure wish that Lee made the Load All II for the .410, I do understand the complications of working with the small diameter and long tube through. I have the Rossi Tuffy and a Sav 42, but just haven't worked with either because of the lack of a press. I had the CJ when they came out but never worked with the .410 side of it, and pretty sure I would not buy another.

I've given up trying to buy a Lee Loader for the .410 so that kind of leaves the MEC Jr.

Fair enough ranchy ! In Texas & most of the the US you guys are spoiled with choice. We in less firearm friendly states or countries have to make do with what we can. I chose mine for close range hunting pigs , while using our dogs to flush em out of the thickets & long grass ect. But since getting the CJ have quickly found out that it’s the women & kids / young teens that love it the most.
Well I’m going to try using the lee universal decapper & lee hand prime thingy with shell holders for the 303 Brit & see how that goes. I’ll make a wad punch out of a 303 Brit case cut at the shoulder & sharpen it with the lee inside and out side chamfer tool. Will use a conventional powder thrower or scales for powder. Plastic Wads or fibre what ever is required. Buck of choice than roll crimp . That’s the plan .

PLEASE post pictures. I am recently fascinated with .410 and shotgun loading is starting to creep into my consciousness.

Even better than pics, there are lots of videos on YouTube about this subject. & because most American suppliers won't ship out side of the USA , that makes me have to improvise.

I know there’s a lanes loader , survival loader in alloy & stainless & another one that’s made in brass maybe paco Kelly or something like that. But their all gonna size them to much in my opinion i’m More inclined to leave them as they are ( fired in the CJ’s chamber ) or unscrew the expander ball & run them in a 45 colt sizing die. There’s probably more life in the shell that way.
A snug fitting pipe or tube to support the shell while compressing the powder / wad & shot.
Then a roll crimp. That’s my plan ! How does that sound to you guys???. It’s not like I expect to load thousands that way , just to get under way & experiment.

Ok my latest . I have bought a 3/8 wood dowl & 3/8 alloy tube , a 5”x1/4” bolt & washers & 5/8 nut to make my loader. I received my buck shot & loading small bore shot gun manuals from Bpi yesterday. Read them last night & now need to decide what wads i’m Going to use. I also got a 1lbs bottle of lil gun & 1 box of MAGTECH brass 2 1/2” shells. Now they are .450” at the case mouth which is a good size bigger than 410. I also have a 6 cavity.395 round ball Mold is on it’s way as well as a 000 buck Mold. Bpi claims higher muzzle velocity is better than more heavy slow balls. I don’t doubt it but I’m Still going to play around & see what I come up with.
