I've always just remembered that I have to move the rear sight in the direction I want the group to move.

Conversely, the front sight moves in the opposite direction I want the group to move.

Right hand rule:

There is the "right hand rule" for use with scopes (except the Soviet military variety). Hold your right hand out, point your thumb the direction you want the group to move, and curl your fingers. Turn the adjustment turret the same direction your fingers are pointing. This works for both elevation and windage.

Left hand rule

This is what you want to use if you have:

1. a Marbles or Lyman tang sight;
2. a Soviet scope; or
3. a rear sight that is windage and/or elevation adjustable via a screw.

It works exactly the same as the right hand rule, except you use your left hand. Point your thumb in the direction you want the group to go, then turn the windage knob or screw, or the elevation knob, barrel or screw the same direction your fingers are pointing.

very helpful info and will save tons of time. i've been leaving the gun alone and moving the target after each shot. great exercise, but a bit time consuming.

I hear you! My problem is that once I get downrange I forget which way I was supposed to move it!

I do as well, as I cannot keep things like this straight. Thank the lord for these smart phones so I have no need to be as smart any more

I also, I have the chart printed for always when I go in competitions and sometimes I need it when I have to change quickly what the sight adjustment for this is. We shoot at 50meter and 100meter distanz and for this is such a chart super suitably. have fun with it.
