I just purchased a 45-70 and was wanting to hear any input about that recoil? I'm planning on shooting mine this weekend.

Bring a shooting pad, jacket, something. That's all I'm saying.

I"ve shot Lever Evolution, PPU, and HSM 430 +p "bear loads". All have shot very well and are very accurate. Be ready for some firm recoil. The HSM is like smacking a donkey on the butt, and getting the expected prize for doing so. I don't plan on hunting bears anytime soon, but if I do, I know what round I'm using!

Your shooting shoulder and flinch center will thank you if you take an appropriate sized drill and drill , laterally, through the xxxx openings in the recoil pad. There is a fairly stiff rib that runs down the center of the recoil pad that makes it unacceptably stiff. The pad just needs more compression cush.

IF you snuggle up with it you'll get more of a shove than a kick.
IF you are scare't of it then it will punish you.

That is an easy shooting cartridge. Good one to break her in.
