Trying to field strip my 92
Hey guys, I'm attempting to field strip my 92 by following Trey Wall's video on YouTube. I took the tension off the main spring and I took the screw and the pin off to take the lever off but it won't come out. It slides out a bit but it won't come out completely. Am I missing a step or am I doing something wrong?

Did you remove the Lever & Bolt pin?
This pin is punched out through the hole in the receiver with the bolt closed.

Is the screw below the saddle ring's loop out?

If the lever and locking bolts will not slide on out the bottom. Then Yes, take the hammer screw out and move the lower tang back a bit (or take it completely out). Then the lever and bolts will come out.
On three of my guns, I do not have to move the tang, but on the 4th one I do.

Re: Trying to field strip my 92
y'all are making me wonder if any two (or four) of these guns are made alike.
fortunately for me, my one R92 disassembles (more or less) like it should.
.... and for the record, I'm totally obsessed with the darned thing![Mr. Green ](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

Ok, I took the hammer screw off and the lower tang won't even come out, it won't even wiggle actually, solid as a rock. The hammer did move though. Starting to think I bit off more than I could chew ![Embarrassed ](./images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)

Re: Trying to field strip my 92
You are fine the lower tang is really snug and tuff to remove on many rifles use some oil to spray into the sides of the lower tang and into the hammer screw hole . This should help ease her to get free. I had to soak mine a bit then just kept tugging an she slowly let go. Your not the only one. Just like the ruger markIII it gets easier with each time you do it. Keep us posted

Re: Trying to field strip my 92
Loosen the Hammer Screw until it is just rotating with no more "out" movement. Knock it out from the opposite side with a punch. All this is done with a bit of reason and don't start wailing away on it out of frustration.
Having bought six of these things, I don't expect the lower tang to slide out. If it does, consider yourself lucky. The lower tang casting is rough, the areas that meet the machined steel of the receiver. As the others have suggested, soak the matching seams on each side of the receiver with a good penetrating oil and let sit for a few minutes. Place an appropriate sized punch through the tang screw hole on the lower tang up through the same hole on the upper tang. Use a hammer or mallet on the punch handle to "lever" the tang aft.
The longer these rifles sit and are shot before the complete breakdown, the worst they are when they must be pulled apart.
I finish the sides of the lower tang, whatever it takes, so that it will slide in and out of the receiver. I then put a coat of a poly type grease I use on my tractor on the mating seams before reassembly.
