Hi guys,
Due to a growing fascination with lever guns, I've recently purchased another - a Winchester 9422, late 70's model.

It has a few dings and scratches on the stock, and I was hoping to get some pointers on the BEST way to address the scratches without refinishing the stock.

For my CZ rifles, I've used Scratch-X auto paste followed by Beeswax polish to produce a nice sheen. and this is what I intend to do this time - but wanted to see if there were other ways to get rid of a fairly deep scratch in a finish such as this. Thanks!



The white bar - is glare - so they say I'm still awaiting the FEDEX to the FFL.

I'm curious as to what can be done as I always just refinish. This is why I prefer oil finishes on field guns they don't scratch. If oil needs a touch up just grap clean rag and reoil her let it soak in. I am curious to see what is suggested as I am always learning.

Just got the rifle tonight. It has a fair number of little nicks and dings and the main scratch on the forend.

I have no intention of stripping it down so I'll use the method I read about at Rimfire Central's CZ forum -- scratch X auto finish followed by FeednWax bees wax.

We'll see.

Yea there are more oil lovers here than varnish. Though true oil is kinda a mix of both. That method can help fill it in. Still hard to get it to match up.

I care but have no experience with the finish used by Winchester. If it is like a late model Marlin, good luck, they are tough to repair (at least to my satisfaction).

LOL. No worries Ranch Dog. The scratch X trick shines up the CZ finish very nicely. I'm just hoping it will hide a few of the minor flaws on the 9422. I don't have my hopes up too high. I'll post some before/after (only if it looks great of course

I remember my dad showing me a method similar to this. I Will see if he remembers how he did thanks for sharing.
