Rossi Rifleman

I finally had a chance to trade for a Rio Grande 45-70. Found a guy a who was very frustrated with his new Rossi and it's failure to feed and function correctly. He never let on as to the reason for his willingness to trade for my (admittedly) meager offering to trade. I picked up an as new 45-70 Rossi with feeding and extraction problems. I knew it had problems(he accidently forgot to bring to ammo he promised in the trade). Feeding issues? I was more than happy to trade as I figured it needed a little massaging to make it run. Sure enough. when I got it home it wouldn't extract a single round. I stripped it down and proceded to finish the final quality inspection step and , what do you know? It now functions perfectly after detail strip and polishing the rough edges. I couldn't be happier! Pics are in next 2 posts. Sorry, I can't navigate to well yet! Xluna

PS~ I ordered a Marlin 336 extractor, and it worked well. A lot more agressive in it's extraction.

thanks, I've been looking at them for quite a while , but couldn't justify the purchase(even though I wanted it badly!) I'm a happy camper.

That very "busy" workbench captures the essence of a true Rossi Rifleman.
No whining or complaining........just getting busy and fixng the problems.
Turning a good NIB rifle into a GREAT rifle is what it's all about.

That's my "inside" loading bench. All the real work gets done on the garage bench, but it's just too durn cold out there! I do enjoy working on guns about as much as shooting them.

The whole Rossi paradigm has been about getting a "kit" rifle 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of a highly finished rifle and doing the finish work yourself.
I call the NIB Rossi rifles "kit" rifles similar in concept to the CVA black powder rifle kits that are still currently available.
The kit concept provides the opportunity for individual creativity and the finished rifles will be as different as the persons doing the work.
I don't mind getting a rough rifle NIB as long as the company is willing to supply me with the parts to fix it.
