Re: steel gong
I can just see you trying to hit a 10" plate @ 200 with a 10-22.................lets see, aim at the TOP of the moon and wait for it.... wait for it.....ding!
I have shot 22s at 100yds before but have not ever tried 200. I'll bet the holdover is ridiculous!

Re: steel gong
CCI mini mags are the only GOOD 22 ammo out there anymore.
My old remington 581, loves those CCIs.... and solids, not hollow points. They seem to be the only real 22 out there.
My youngest son got his mother in law a 22 pistol for Christmas. It was jamming every other shot with the bulk ammo. I told him to get CCI solids.............no more jams!

Re: steel gong
don I agree I think with the amped up .22 production the bulk fodder has taken a consistency/qaulity hit for sure. When it can still be found.

Re: steel gong
Just a thought, but even if you "ONLY" "plan" on shooting a pistol at your gong at relatively close ranges, get an AR500 plate.
I have a nice pistol gong with a stand that is fun to shoot and gives nice feedback. The only problem is that shooting it with anything more than a pistol is a no-no.
It's very thick, probably 3/4", but even so a SOFT POINT 7.62x39mm AK round at 75 yards put a LARGE dent into it and sent it spinning off to one side like a carnival game.
Then there's my dad's similar gong with a .30 cal hole straight through it and a LARGE dent from a .50 cal muzzle loader.
So yeah, for longevity's sake get a AR500 plate.

Re: steel gong
I bought a set of 3/8" AR550 steel gongs from thetargetman_llc on ebay. 6" for 50 & 100 yards, 8" for 200 yards, 10" for 250 yards, and 12" for 300 yards.
The weather cleared up this afternoon so my grandson went out and put them up!
Clicking on this last picture will open it into a larger view which should allow you to make out the now "orange" gongs from the second target berm on out.
