Rossi in Arizona

Post by PrincipalDiesel »

I just picked up my new Rio Grande this afternoon! I am pleased so far. I will spend tomorrow cleaning and lubing the gun. I have not fired it yet. I have been impressed by the fit and finish of this work rife. I have found one approximately 3 mm round puncture on the stock, and one 6 mm circle of blue discolor/blemish on the top of the barrel. The action cycles with ease and the loading gate feels easier than others described in other posts. For the price I can not complain. This gun will be used for elk down in heavy brush and salt cedar in the river bottoms of Northeastern Arizona. I am open to all suggestions and recommendations.

You are in a dry climate but with the rifle cleaned up, need something to protect the thin finish on the wood. Rossi uses a water based stain with no sealer. At a minimum, a good coat of wood wax or apply something like a Tru-Oil finish.

You didn't say if you are a reloader but for large big game, heavy cast bullets is the way to go!
